The nearest city to Bryan Beach is Galveston, about an hour away. Freeport Beach is located near the nearby town of Freeport. You can drive there in less than an hour from Houston if you’re city-bound. When you’re in Texas, there’s no reason to skip a beach day.
Bryan Beach: Is it safe to drive there?
If you have a street-legal vehicle, you are allowed to drive on the beach. The beach is not suitable for off-road vehicles or motorized carts, but you can drive your car or truck there.
It is important to obey the speed limit of 15 mph, however. It is common to share the beach with many pedestrians and beachcombers.
Is Freeport Beach a good place to camp?
A lot of people take advantage of the camping opportunities on Bryan Beach along Freeport Beach. You can camp here for free in both an RV and a tent. Aside from the lack of amenities, there are no electric hookups or modern facilities. It is up to you to bring in the items you’ll need and to take them out again.
It is rewarding and peaceful to camp by the beach, but you need to be aware of the tides. During a storm, when the sea is rough and the winds blow, tides can change quickly.

You might not enjoy beach visits as much as your pet does, which makes Bryan Beach even better. Dogs are welcome at Bryan Beach. We encourage you to bring Rover and Fido with you, but please be sure to keep their leashes with you. Despite the fact that the beach is dog-friendly, dogs must remain on a leash at all times.
