A clog, which is the most common problem, must be avoided for RV drains to function properly. You can reduce your chances of experiencing clogged RV drains by following a few simple steps.
1. Dispense with food particles
Food waste is broken down before it is thrown away in our brick and stick homes that have garbage disposals. When RVers travel, they rarely have access to this kind of luxury. Food scraps should be disposed of directly into the trash in order to prevent blockages in the kitchen sink. You can keep your RV’s sink free of clogs when you clean its hobs.
2. Sink strainer
Using a sink strainer to prepare food can lead to food particles falling down the drain. When produce or meat is rinsed, strainers prevent food particles from going down the drain. It is possible to prevent RV drain clogs through preventative maintenance.
3. Avoid draining the oil
You should avoid using oils in your kitchen and bathrooms to prevent clogging. Drains become clogged when oil or grease is poured down them, because it forms a liquid that solidifies over time. Paper towels can be used to remove oily kitchen residue, which can then be disposed of in the trash. Place the container over the cooked meat to catch the fat before you wash it. This will allow you to rinse the fat from ground meat after it has been cooked.
4. Avoid waxy soaps
Clogging drains can also be caused by waxy conditioners and clay-based conditioners. If flushed down the drain, these products can solidify and should not be used in RV bathrooms.
5. Keep drains free of hair
RV pipe blockages are often caused by hair, which is no surprise. Hair is prevented from sliding down the drain by the hair catcher. Your shower and bathroom sink should also have one since hair can easily get caught in drains.
6. It is not a good idea to throw away coffee grounds
Even coffee grounds can cause an RV drain to clog. Living in an RV for the first time may not be apparent to you. Anything weird you find should be thrown away if you don’t have RV-approved toilet paper.
