Keeping RV drains working correctly requires preventing clogs, which is the most common problem. Taking a few simple steps will reduce your chances of experiencing clogged RV drains.

  1. Dispose of food particles

We have garbage disposals in our brick-and-stick homes, which break down food waste before it is flushed. Most RVers do not have this type of luxury when they travel. The kitchen sink should be kept clear of clogs by disposing of food waste directly into the garbage. When you have cleaned your RV plates, you don’t have to worry about clogging the sink.

  1. Put a strainer in the sink

Food particles can get down the drain when a sink strainer is used to prepare food. The food particles are prevented from going down the drain by strainers used to rinse produce or meat. Through preventive maintenance, RV drain clogs can be prevented.

  1. Make sure oil is not drained

Avoid clogging your kitchen and bathroom drains by avoiding oils. When oil or grease is poured down the drain, it becomes liquid, but over time, it solidifies and clogs. Remove the oily residue from the kitchen with a paper towel and dispose of it in the trash. You can rinse off the fat from ground beef after it has been cooked is to placing the bowl over the meat so that the grease is caught before it is washed away.

  1. Waxy soaps should be avoided

A waxy conditioner or a clay-based conditioner can also clog drains. These types of products should not be used in your RV bathroom as they can solidify once rinsing down the drain.

  1. Make sure hair is kept out of drains

There is no doubt that hair is a major culprit when it comes to RV plumbing clogs. Hair catcher prevents hair from slipping down the drain. Since hair can easily get caught in drains, you should also place one in the shower and the bathroom sink.

  1. Coffee grounds shouldn’t be dumped

An RV drain can become clogged by something as simple as coffee grounds. You may not realize this if you have never lived in an RV before. If you don’t have RV-approved toilet paper, you should throw away anything foreign.
