How to empty your RV holding tanks?

In this article, we walk you through the steps of emptying your RV’s holding tanks. Keeping the black holding tank closed for as long as possible is one of the best things that we can do to ensure that the chemicals inside the tank can break down the solids and toilet paper inside the tank as soon as possible. By dumping the tanks, you will be able to evacuate them more efficiently because the solids and toilet paper will build up more head pressure.

NOTE: When going camping, it’s recommended that you should bring RV toilet paper rather than traditional toilet paper in case you do need to use it. The RV toilet paper tends to break down quicker than traditional toilet paper while in the holding tanks.

You will need to follow the following steps to empty your RV holding tanks:

  1. As long as your black tank remains closed, there will be no waste to build up in the tank, and you will have a much easier time dumping it since the toilet chemicals are able to break down the black tank waste.
  2. Using your see-through hose attachment, remove the cap from your black tank and attach it to the outside of the tank.
  3. If you have a see-through hose attachment, attach it to your hose and release your waste water through the hose attachment.
  4.  Your gray tank water valve should be open when the black tank is empty to allow the gray tank waste to escape and help you clean your house.
  5. As soon as the gray tank is empty, close all your valves, disconnect your hose, and pack it up.

It may be a good idea to invest in a flush valve like the Flush King if you like to keep things extra clean. Solidified waste in black water tanks can be easily removed with these gadgets. The product will help you if you’re having trouble dumping your RV waste tank despite filling it up.
