As RVers, we need to establish how important it is to have a domicile address. Let’s look at how to pick the right home base. When choosing a domicile, there are several things to take into account. You should consider the following considerations when shopping for a home.

REMEMBER YOUR STATE OF ORIGIN

Keep your state of origin as your home if you have property you are leaving behind. Your mail can still be received at your property if you take this route.

Although you may need to locate a postal service in your state of origin, retaining your domicile might be the logical place to live if you want to fulltime RV. When you stop traveling or spend considerable time in the same state, it’s especially important to plan ahead.

LOOK AT POSTAL SERVICE OPTIONS

A person’s domicile state is chosen because it is where their preferred mail service operates. The RVing community uses a few different mailing services. The following are among them: Escapees, Saint Brendan’s Isle, Anytime Mailbox, FMCA, and Dakota Post. In order to choose which one is best (or whether you would like to explore something completely different), you will need to consider each’s pros and cons.

PREPARE TO BE WHERE YOU ARE

If you’re going to spend the majority of your time in one state, it’s best to domicile there. Or at least the state in which you will be returning yearly for doctor visits. Many full-time RVers find it most convenient to live in a state where they often visit family. As a result, it’s easier to serve jury duty, vote, renew your drivers’ license, and get an annual vehicle inspection not only legally, but also more conveniently.

EXAMINE TAXES

State income taxes do not apply to all states. Aside from that, there are a lot of differences between states when it comes to things like vehicle taxes. You may just save yourself a lot of money if you investigate these factors before deciding on an RV home state.
