An Airstream trailer featuring familiar Pottery Barn collections has been designed by Airstream and Pottery Barn in honor of the Pacific Coast Highway. With a lavishly decorated trailer, Airstream hopes to appeal to retiring Boomers. In recent decades, road travel has steadily increased. An RV Industry Association study found that RV ownership has grown by 62% in the past two decades. Through the use of personal transportation, the pandemic has not only transformed American travel, but also socially isolated Americans. Road trips are more beneficial than remote work and online education in terms of leisure travel.
Due to pandemic-induced desire to get out of the house, RVs have become very popular. Shipments of RVs have increased by over 70 percent in the first half of 2021 over the same period in 2020. In 2009, Airstream sold 209,830 travel trailers, 73.5% more than the previous year. One of the reasons is a surge in sales of “huge proportions” in 2021, which is higher than the RIVA’s original forecast of 575,000 units.
Adding Pottery Barn’s high-end furnishings to Airstream’s 28-foot trailer seems like a perfect fit to convey what both companies describe as casual sophistication. Pottery Barn and Airstream collaborated previously on the Airstream x Pottery Barn Special Edition trailer. It has a queen-sized bed and twin bunk beds in its rear bedroom. Based on a 28RB trailer, this trailer was built. Airstream’s standard layout starts at $115,300 and includes a kitchen, a bathroom, a sleeping area, and a lounge area. A limited edition of 1,000 Pottery Barn Special Editions will be available for $145,000.
The process of financing a recreational vehicle is also different from financing a vehicle. Second homes can also be purchased with RVs, which allow interest deductions and longer payments.
