The electric RV conversion continues

In addition to RV solar panel systems, another point of interest was raised during the last years. Since Matt began working in the RV industry 6-7 years ago, he has seen systems evolve from trickle charging batteries to towables powered solely by solar. A lot of roof A/C units for RVs are powered by batteries, such as those made by Nomadic Cooling (a subsidiary of Dometic). Revel campervans from Winnebago are equipped with it.

Rivian’s EV truck is now available for purchase, if you’ve been following the news. RV manufacturers will forever be affected by the long-anticipated all-electric trucks that will come on the market in 2022. Tent campers and backpackers will be directly affected by some, like Rivian, while towable vehicles, like the Ford F-150 Lightning, will be affected by 220v outlets.

As RV innovation continues, I think solar energy will become more important so that propane can be eliminated from the RV lifestyle. I am concerned most about campground readiness in 2022.

Electric infrastructure is often lacking in older campgrounds, which cannot support a 30 or 50 amp RV charging while an EV is charging. Having an RV and an EV plugged in simultaneously at 50 to 500 sites on a property is as good as it gets. There will be a lot of news reports about campground blackouts in 2022.

You must educate yourself to get the most out of the 2022 RV camping season.

Mike Wendland said an RV running over a pothole is like going through an earthquake of near 5.0 magnitude. Even with all the advances in solar panel technology, solar energy remains one of the slower methods of generating electricity. It is impossible for RV insiders to predict when or if prices will decline, despite all the information they possess.
