In California, there are eight great places to camp on BLM land.
Mountain Shasta Dispersed Camping
Mount Shasta can be clearly seen from Sand Flat Dispersed Camping. This northern part of the state offers many wilderness hikes. Access to the campsites is restricted by the rough road. It is best to visit a BLM camping site on foot or by bicycle before driving back.
Lone Pine’s Alabama Hills Recreation Area
Camping on BLM land in California offers several breathtaking views. Alabama Hills Recreation Area does not deviate from this rule. In the nearby area are Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park. From this spot, you can see Mt. Whitney. In spite of the west side of the recreation area being only for day use, there are plenty of opportunities for overnight boondocking. If you want to see the road clearly, make sure you camp here during daylight hours.
Bishop’s Volcanic Tablelands
Near Death Valley National Park are the Volcanic Tablelands. We welcome rigs of all sizes. For RVs with low clearance, you must scout the area first due to the bumpy road.
Camping along Owens River Road in Mammoth Lakes
It is easy to access Yosemite National Park from Owens River Road Dispersed Camping. Summertime is a great time to enjoy the shade provided by trees. From the camping area, you can access many hiking trails.
Camping at Sawtooth Canyon in Lucerne Valley
Sawtooth Canyon Campground is located in Central California. For rock climbers, Lucerne Valley is a popular location. The well-maintained road makes getting to the campsites a little longer. A ranger patrols the free BLM camping area regularly. Off-road vehicles are not allowed in the area.
Chiriaco Summit Dispersed Camping in Joshua Tree South
BLM camping in California is associated with campgrounds like this one. The campground is located between Interstate 10 and Joshua Tree National Park’s south entrance. BLM camping is visible from the interstate, despite being visible from the highway. In addition to being only 30 minutes from Coachella Valley, Joshua Tree National Park is one of the most desirable locations for tourists.
Julian Dispersed Camping in Blair Valley
Near Los Angeles, approximately 75 miles south of the area, is San Diego. In the summer, it may be extremely hot due to its desert location. Levelling blocks are recommended for washouts that can be rough. The road is not level, and some washouts may be uneven.
Winterhaven’s historic Tumco Townsite
A large amount of desert space is available at the Tumco Historic Townsite in Winterhaven. It is convenient to camp in dispersed areas. While there is little to see in this historic town, it is an excellent location to explore the nearby sand dunes or to visit Arizona or Mexico.
